Social empowerment is definitely crucial for everyone across the world. Social empowerment — which is the process of enabling individuals and communities to gain control over their own lives and improve their social and economic status and involves providing individuals and communities with the resources, opportunities and support to participate fully in society — leads to increased self-esteem, improved well-being and a sense of belonging and inclusion and contributes to the overall development and progress of individuals and societies. But, according to multiple sources including newspapers, countless men and women are not socially empowered in different countries in the world desirably. Less social empowerment is definitely a concern in many countries including disadvantaged countries.

It is notable that governments, non-government organizations and others have taken steps to ensure social empowerment. Governments have been implementing policies that promote equal opportunities for all citizens in educational, economic and other terms, regardless of their socio-economic background, gender or marginalized status, to enable them to actively participate in society and contribute to their development and the development of societies. Among others, governments are working towards creating a supportive ground for marginalized communities by fostering inclusivity and promoting diversity in society. Along with governments, non-government organizations have been making programmatic and other efforts to promote social empowerment in many countries. Because of government and other efforts, social empowerment has notably increased in many countries in the world now. But social empowerment efforts are less in many countries.

Despite efforts and intentions for social empowerment, policies often inadvertently exclude different groups including marginalized groups or fail to address the specific needs needed for their social empowerment. Additionally, there is limited accessibility and reach of government initiatives, particularly in rural and disadvantaged communities in many countries. Additionally, in social empowerment oriented programs, there is often the implementation of surface-level programs that do not lead to sustainable change in many cases and limited access to such programs in disadvantaged communities. Consequently, limited access to resources, limited income opportunities and economic disparities put crucial challenges to social empowerment in many countries. Among countries, opportunities are less in less resourceful countries and more people are— consequently — less socially empowered in less resourceful countries.

Additionally, government, non-government and other efforts often fail to address social and other root causes, further exacerbating inequalities and undermining the overall goal of social empowerment steps in different countries. There is a significant presence of systemic discrimination and unequal distribution of power that hinder individuals from participating fully in society. In different Asian and African countries, the caste system and racial division perpetuate social inequality in accessing economic and other resources and opportunities. In different countries, many are also politically marginalized by governments, leading to their less social empowerment. Additionally, cultural norms and stereotypes restrict the roles and rights of certain groups, such as women or marginalized communities, in different countries.

The lack of or less social empowerment leads to decreased self-esteem and confidence and a higher likelihood of experiencing discrimination and marginalization. Additionally, the lack of or less social empowerment leads to a sense of isolation and alienation — hindering individuals from actively participating in their communities and societies and contributing to societal progress in different countries. It is consequently desired that social empowerment be enhanced in the world. For this, economic and other challenges to social empowerment need to be addressed with effective steps in different countries. But it is crucial to address the challenges through inclusive policies in order to create a more equitable and just society where everyone has the economic, social, political and other opportunities needed to thrive.

But the emphasis needs to be given to marginalized communities and groups for their social empowerment in less developed countries. Social empowerment consequently needs to involve promoting those policies that address discrimination and ensure that marginalized communities and groups have a voice in decision-making processes. But addressing systemic barriers regardless of their background or socioeconomic status is also crucial for social empowerment in many countries. For this, fostering a supportive and inclusive community that values diversity and encourages active community engagement can also be helpful in many countries. Among others, creating awareness may also be helpful as the lack of awareness hinders social empowerment in different countries.
