To Whom It May Concern,
Daria Daulat is a union of Bancharapur thana under the Brahmanbaria district of Bangladesh. Maricha Kandi Bazar is situated within this Union where illegal drug sales were a common phenomenon. A few years back, there were many drug dealers in the Maricha Kandi Bazar and adjacent areas who were involved with the selling of illegal drugs including Yaba and Marijuana. Of course, drug dealing reduced to a greater extent in the area after the massive crackdown across countries including the stated area a few years back. Yet, there exist drug businesses.
No doubt, drug abuse has enormous negative effects in economic, social and other terms. It spoils a huge amount of money, creates a range of social problems and leads to psychological damages. It affects not only those who are involved with drug abuse but also their families and relatives. Of course, drug abuse affects many but young people are more affected. But such a business continues because of direct and indirect support from the local and thana level political leaders (who are monetarily benefited from such businesses), though all local and thana level political leaders are neither directly involved nor do they support illegal drug businesses. Besides, there are claims that law enforcement agencies, operating at the thana level, are benefited, especially in monetary terms, from drug businesses in the stated area.
It is desired that the stated area is made drug-free and favorable to the development of the youth population. Thus, the law-enforcement agencies need to take actions against those who sell illegal drugs in the stated area. In this respect, they need to identify those who sell and abuse drugs. Moreover, they need to bring those who are found to be involved with drug trafficking to justice. It is also desired that law enforcement officials be brought to justice if they are found to be supportive of drug businesses.
