Powerful countries play vital roles in mitigating conflicts — both international and civil wars — in different regions. They play crucial roles in fostering peace resolutions through a variety of means including diplomatic steps, sanctions and even military interventions. According to multiple sources including the British Broadcasting Corporation and Cable News Network, different global powers have played crucial roles in mitigating many conflicts including, but not limited to, the Kosovo war and the Nagorno-Karabakh war. While the negotiations of global powers have reached peace agreements in many areas including the Nagorno-Karabakh war, NATO air strikes, in support of peace mediation, made the Milosevic regime withdraw forces from Kosovo in 1998.
But global powers fail to prevent escalations and end conflicts many times, resulting in wars, sometimes prolonging wars in many regions. It is notable that there are interests driven, cooperation based and other reasons for the failure of global powers to end international and civil wars and bring peace. Complex geo-economic and geopolitical interests, differing agendas and a lack of consensus among the global powers in conflicts and peace-making efforts are crucial barriers to preventing and mitigating wars. Among others, the lack of interest among the warring parties, the historical roots of conflicts and deep-seated grievances among the parties involved in wars often complicate peace resolution efforts, making it challenging for global powers to effectively intervene and bring about lasting peace.
Hopefully saying, different global powers including the United States, Russia and the United Kingdom make peace negotiations and other steps to address different barriers, leading to the effectiveness of mitigating efforts. Global powers make diplomatic steps among themselves many times and peace building efforts with regional powers and the conflicting parties that help address differing geopolitical interests and reach a consensus on ending conflicts, including long-standing conflicts, bringing about ceasefires and peace resolutions, promoting stability and preventing further conflicts. However, there are unwillingness based and other flaws in the steps in addressing barriers to the optimum role of global powers in ending conflicts and bringing peace, leading to ineffective outcomes many times.
The steps are limited to reaching common grounds and generating consensus among the global parties in many conflicts including different long-standing conflicts and there are almost absent or ineffective steps to address national interest-driven barriers on reasonable grounds in conflicts — often hindering meaningful collaboration and compromises in the effectiveness of international efforts to achieve lasting peace — in different countries and regions. But generating consensus is often difficult between different geopolitically rival global powers and their blocs. Consequently, direct opposition is seen in many meaningful peace resolutions in the United States Security Council and beyond. Among others, there are limited steps to generate regional support in ending conflicts and reaching peace many times.
It is desired that steps be taken to address the reasons for the failure of global powers to end conflicts and reach peace. But putting emphasis on diplomatic negotiations to find common grounds among global powers and establish mutual agreements can be successful many times and help provide resources and support to facilitate peaceful resolutions and promote cooperation among conflicting parties. Fostering open communication among the parties including regional powers involved and utilizing established diplomatic channels can help mediate discussions effectively and reach peace on vital conflicts in different regions.
But, pertinently saying, it is not always easy to address the differing geopolitical interests of global powers and their geopolitical blocs — effectively. Consequently, reaching a consensus on peace processes is pragmatically difficult many times in conflicts in different regions. Yet, the good intentions of different global powers alone can help mediate disputes, prevent many conflicts and reach peace resolutions, leading to not only the prevention of deaths but also fostering the human development of many.
