The United States proposed a peace plan on the Gaza war, increasing the chance of ending the war. As per the reports of the British Broadcasting Corporation and Cable News Network, the president of the United States proposed a twenty-point peace plan to end the Gaza war, which has so far killed more than 65000 and destroyed most of the buildings in Gaza. The peace plan is a promising plan and has the potential to lead to a lasting peace. Many leaders including many leaders of Europe and the Middle East have hailed the plan, announced at the White House on Monday when Donald Trump met Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. Positively saying, while Israeli Prime Minister has accepted the plan, the Palestinian Authority also hailed it as ”sincere and determined.”
The twenty-point Peace Plan has many positive aspects that can lead to a lasting peace in Gaza, which has been in trouble for decades. If implemented, the proposed plan will not only end the Gaza war within a few days but also lead to Palestinian statehood later. It will end Israeli bombings across Gaza, lead to the withdrawal of Israeli forces and the release of the remaining hostages, dead and alive, and provide access to humanitarian aid supplies to Gaza. Furthermore, the plan proposes a temporary transitional authority, consisting of Palestinians and international actors, to redevelop Gaza, puts emphasis on improving economic conditions and providing economic opportunities to Gazans and includes the International Stabilization Force to bring stability in Gaza.
But whether this will be accepted by the parties in the war and how much it will bring peace remains unclear. Differing concerns and other reasons can put hindrances to the acceptance and implementation of it. Hamas, one of the two parties in the Gaza war that will be completely disarmed and will have no role to play in the post-agreement Gaza under the proposed plan, has already rejected the peace plan, making it difficult to be implemented. Hamas already says that it “serves Israel’s interests” and “ignores those of the Palestinian people”. The lack of trust between the two parties can also put barriers to the acceptance of the peace proposal and its implementation.

There are some other challenges. The plan does not give details on implementation strategies and there is less emphasis on the statehood of Palestine, which is crucial for lasting peace, although the latest proposal has stated the possible statehood of Palestine. There is no time frame on when Palestine will become an independent state and Israel’s right-wing cabinet can also pose a challenge to the plan, even if Israeli Prime Minister has accepted the plan and other leaders accept it. An Israeli leader in the far-right wing of the ruling coalition had already rejected some of the conditions.
But a peace deal is better than no deal and war. A peace deal will end the Gaza war and Israeli bombings, save lives and help improve the overall situation for all Gazans. But, even if the proposed peace plan is not accepted as it is, further efforts need to be continued. But given the challenges, efforts are needed to address these. Diplomatic efforts with Hamas and Israel can increase the chance of its acceptance and implementation. But its success lies with Netanyahu and the present leadership of Hamas, even if there are possible disagreements within the leaders of each of the warring sides.
A peace deal may be difficult to reach without some compromises from both parties. But no peace deal will bring lasting peace unless Palestine becomes a full-fledged independent country. This will provide rights, dignity and desired freedom. Pertinently saying, many countries including many western countries have recognized the state of Palestine. A concrete plan for the future state of Palestine will help bring a lasting peace.
