The 17th Bali Summit is going to be held among G-20 member countries in the coming November this year in Indonesia. Notably, the G-20 summit is convened at least once in a year where the heads of the member states of the G-20, an intergovernmental forum or a group of twenty that is comprised of nineteen countries and the European Union that account for more than eighty percent of global GDP and more than seventy percent of international trade, participate aiming at addressing major global issues related to global economy including financial stability and sustainable development. But this upcoming summit has attracted attention from many across countries.
This is because the presidents of Russia, China and the USA, are going to participate in the summit. Notably, the summit is going to be held at a time when there are growing tensions in the world due to the Russia-Ukraine war and the China-Taiwan tension. Moreover, the upcoming Bali summit has a different indication and hope, as it will create the scope of face-to-face talks among presidents of several countries including Russia, the USA and China. Consequently, the summit will increase the chance of making some positive developments that may help to end the Russia-Ukraine war and reduce the heightened tension between China and Taiwan and the United States over the visit of the Speaker of the House of Representatives.
Of course, the upcoming Bali summit is less likely to instantly end the Ukraine war. Moreover, there is no guarantee that the Bali Summit will lead to the end of the Russia-Ukraine war and reduce tension between China and Taiwan, which have increased for the last several years. Indeed, all diplomatic efforts and unprecedented sanctions have failed to prevent the Ukraine war and end it. Indeed, relations between Russia and the United States, two most powerful countries that consider each other as the most significant threat, are at the lowest at present after the cold war which started immediately after Second World War and lasted for several decades.
But face to face talks, which have some advantages over telephone conservation, among the global leaders can help reach some positive developments that may help end the Ukraine war, which has been going on for more than five months without any visible sign of its ending sooner, and reduce the tension between China and Taiwan sooner or later. No doubt, the world is at a vital stage at this moment. Any major war from the Russia-Ukraine war and China-Taiwan tension may lead to Third World War involving nuclear power holding countries and increase the chance of unprecedented devastation around the world.
Under such circumstances, the upcoming Bali summit that will create a scope of direct face- face meetings among the presidents of Russia, the United States and China may bring positive outcomes. It is, thus, desired that the Bali Summit on the island brings some good outcomes for the Ukraine war and China-Taiwan tensions. But the good intention of the global leaders is crucial for any positive development from the summit.
Yours sincerely,
Mr. D
